Mineral oil industry / bio-fuels

Brandenburg is considered one of Germany's most significant mineral oil producers

The refinery site in Schwedt is the centre of petroleum production. PCK Schwedt belongs to the most efficient refineries in all of Europe. In its neighbourhood, more than 70 enterprises with around 3,000 employees have settled, mainly external establishments.  PCK is a prime producer of sulphur-less fuels. It is the first refinery in Germany that has entered the large scale production of motor fuels out of biogenous components.

Nationwide, around 25% of bio-diesel comes from Brandenburg

Brandenburg is considered one of Europe's most significant region for fuel fabrication out of renewable primary products. By the end of 2006, six plants with a capacity of 550,000 tons will produce bio-fuels. Nordbrandenburger BioEnergie GmbH in Schwedt is Germany's biggest plant for rye-based bio-ethyl-alcohol. Further production capacities for bio-ethyl-alcohol are planned at the Premnitz and Wittenberge sites.

Procedures and plants for synthetic fuel production out of biomass

The federal states Hessen, Lower Saxony and Brandenburg together with the VW group work out the postulates for 2nd generation bio-fuel supply. They are also planning the fundamentals for cultivation. The Ministry for Rural Development, Environment and Consumer Protection, the Potsdam Institute for Agricultural Technology and the University of Applied Sciences Eberwalde are members of the core work group.
