Brandenburg’s Northwest: Connecting Berlin and Hamburg
Brandenburg’s northwestern part enjoys a favorable location midway between Berlin and Hamburg, with the advantage of excellent connections to the German Baltic Sea ports. Another autobahn connects the region with Magdeburg, Hanover and the Ruhr. Moreover, the area benefits from excellent waterways that interconnect the Elbe, Havel, Oder and Spree rivers.
The Prignitz-Oberhavel region is composed of the Prignitz, Ostprignitz-Ruppin and Oberhavel districts. The major business sites are in Neuruppin, Wittenberge, Pritzwalk and Oranienburg. Wittenberge’s inland port in the Prignitz regional growth area and the road facilities along the Berlin–Hamburg autobahn (A24) are especially attractive to logistics businesses. Technology-intensive businesses find excellent conditions in the Oranienburg-Hennigsdorf-Velten regional growth area, which has already attracted Nycomed and other biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. Global players with facilities in the region include the railway technology supplier Bombardier and the airlaid manufacturer Concert GmbH, located in Pritzwalk/Falkenhagen.
Large undeveloped industrial lots are available at several locations in the region, including the new Temnitz Park, located near the A24 autobahn close to the Neuruppin regional growth area. The Prignitz industrial park in Falkenhagen within the Wittstock/Dosse motorway junction is another of the region’s attractive investment locations.
Moreover, the region boasts excellent quality of life: with plenty of green spaces, extensive waterways and numerous cycle tracks and hiking trails, it is a favorite leisure destination.
