Potsdam, the Regional Capital

The regional capital, one of Brandenburg’s main business locations

Living and working is fun in Potsdam, the “secret German capital”, as Der Spiegel stated in the 2007/40 issue. World-famous palaces and parks as well as a variety of lovingly restored quarters contribute to the city’s charm and are appreciated not only by tourists, but also by companies and scientists from around the globe.

With six universities and over forty non-university R&D facilities, Potsdam is an internationally acclaimed science location. From colloids to climate research, in global contexts or microscopic dimensions: many top-level research projects are conducted here. The city is second to none in Germany as regards the proportion of scientists and students.

Innovation and creativity make Potsdam stand out as a scientific location. The combination of R&D and enterprise has forged a context of industrial expertise that gives the city a unique and individual flair. Companies in growth industries like media, IT, biotechnology, life sciences and surveying are particularly successful and enjoy remarkable growth rates. Daily soaps, Oscar-winning productions, satellite remote sensing, tsunami warning systems, novel medication against malaria and diabetes: all products “made in Potsdam”.

There are a number of good reasons for investing here - and numerous opportunities. In particular, three attractive locations are available for companies concerned with natural sciences: Golm Science Park, Albert Einstein Science Park and Hermannswerder Biotech Campus. Furthermore, software developers and IT firms favor the vicinity of the Hasso Plattner Institute, while film and media businesses group in Babelsberg.
