Havelland District

Business location: Havelland District

Havelland is situated west of Berlin’s Spandau district and is considered the “gateway to the capital”. Its excellent infrastructure includes a tight network of waterways, several major roads (including the enlarged B5 between Berlin and Nauen), accessibility to the A10 autobahn, and two high-speed rail lines. Consequently, the whole area along the B5 has blossomed into the strongest growth area in the district. Since 2007, Havelland has been one of the districts with the lowest unemployment rate in the state of Brandenburg.

The Berlin West Freight Village forms a crucial transport hub with its two subareas Wustermark and Brieselang. Three transport carriers serve the “village”: road (direct access to the A10 autobahn and the B5), waterway (harbor on the Havel Canal) and rail (container terminal operated by the Havelländische Eisenbahn AG, HVLE). The former Wustermark switching yard, which is to complement the freight village under the management of the Rail & Logistik Center Wustermark GmbH & Co. KG, a subsidiary of HVLE, constitutes an excellent location for rail logistics companies.

The town of Rathenow is the heartland of Brandenburg’s optics industry, as Germany’s first pair of glasses was produced here in 1801. Today, Rathenow caters for all types of optical products and services. Moreover, the companies that operate here are using high-precision optometric technology to manufacture medical devices, hearing acoustics and laser products.

The town of Premnitz, which used to be famous for chemistry, now boasts one of the district’s most attractive industrial parks (Industrial Park Premnitz, IPP). The park’s own CHP plant ensures an inexpensive supply of power and heat and makes the location particularly interesting for energy-intensive businesses and companies of the environmental industry.

A close network composed by seven universities, twenty-one institutes of technology and over 250 private and public R&D facilities in Berlin, Potsdam and Brandenburg an der Havel, i.e. right on the district’s doorstep, offers a variety of cooperation opportunities and cater for a skilled workforce.

Primary and secondary schools, private and public educational institutions: you are sure to find state-of-the-art schooling for children of all ages in the Havelland district. The Marie Curie Gymnasium in Dallgow-Döberitz, for example, is one of the most modern high schools in the Berlin-Brandenburg region.

Havelland Kliniken GmbH, one of the largest hospitals in the region, offers you a full range of modern, high-quality health care from a single source.

Last but not least, about 55 square kilometers of lakes, 190 square kilometers of nature reserves and 430 square kilometers of woodland compose a picturesque and exceptional landscape characterized by the omnipresent Havel River (Tourist Information). Nature lovers appreciate in particular Westhavelland nature reserve and the Döberitzer Heide nature conservation area, right at the gates of Berlin.
